WASHINGTON DC, WA, August 29, 2026 — The Secret Service said Tuesday that it’s aware of an Iranian video threatening Barron Trump’s life. Iran’s state broadcaster aired the video, showing points associated with his location. It allegedly says that a USD 10 million bounty is being offered for information on his whereabouts.
The Agency’s Response
Spokesman Nate Herring said, “The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates any threats perceived to our protectees”. “Because of operational security concerns, we do not discuss any protective intelligence matters,” Herring said. The agency did not specify what kinds of protective actions might ensue.
Iran has not singled out 20-year-old Barron Trump previously by name in its threats. Iranian media had earlier issued similar threats against first lady Melania Trump. This seems to be a clear stepping up of targeting the wider family line of the president.
A Pattern of Threats
In recent months, state-controlled groups in Iran have been broadcasting over and over again threatening Trump and his family. The threats spread through November after the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at the beginning of the long-awaited U.S.-Israeli war with Iran in February. Trump has long been among the top targets of Iranian leadership since ordering the 2020 strike that killed General Qasem Soleimani.
Deputy Director Matt Quinn said, “Iran has publicly stated their desire to assassinate President Trump, so this is not a secret”. Quinn issued the comment to reporters at a press event last month, prior to this new video appearing. Federal authorities have called the video part of a sustained threat campaign from Iranian-linked media.
The Broadcaster Behind the Video
The video was broadcasted by Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting. Iran’s supreme leader has direct authority over the leadership of the state media. The officials described it as in line with hard-line factions within the Iranian government.
Previous videos in the series featured movement details on Trump family members. According to prosecutors, some of those prior videos had allegedly offered ideas for killing family members. None of the prior threats have materialized with a confirmed attack attempt.
Context of the Ongoing Conflict
The video emerged as the US-Iran conflict nears its six-month mark. Last week a 60-day ceasefire agreement between the two nations that had not been renewed ended. The formal expiration of the agreement had already been strained by renewed attacks on vessels in a vital strait.
In a separate statement, the Treasury Department revealed new measures intended to restrict Iran’s financial revenue streams. Officials have said that the sanctions are intended to increase economic pressure without escalating militarily. The Department of Homeland Security has information about federal protective operations.
The video, security analysts say, mirrors a growing informational campaign linked to the wider conflict. Since the end of the ceasefire, security measures surrounding the Trump family have been reportedly increased. In responding, officials have not released specifics on security changes made.
The White House has not released a stand-alone statement about the video. Experts in foreign policy say that these threats rarely turn into operational plots and therefore always need to be checked. Amid this ongoing conflict, the administration is still weighing military and economic actions.
